The 2012 Medina Bobcat football team, under the guidance of first year Head Coach Brandon Allen, have completed their first week of summer practice and have settled in to "working on the details" of what appears to be a high-powered offense along with an aggressive, experienced defensive unit that could carry the Bobcats into a post-season playoff appearance this season.
The Bobcat offense returns eight starters from the 2011 team while the defense returns nine starters from a year ago.
Coach Allen commented on the team's progress following the first week of workouts. "With all of the returning starters from last year, we are ahead of schedule and can concentrate on working on the details. Offensively, we are going to work on our timing and execution in an effort to become more fluid. Defensively, the structure is already in place so now we are working on the small things like breaking down and wrapping up," Allen said.
The Bobcat offense will be powered by quarterback JD Ortiz, running back Adrian Jackson, and wide receiver Mitchell Black. Garrett Collins will anchor the Bobcat line while linebackers Valentin Luna and Michael Baker are among the returning starters on the Bobcat defensive unit. The Bobcats will travel to Crystal City on Saturday, August 18, for live scrimmage action beginning at 10:30 am. On Friday, August 24, the Bobcats will play host to the TMI Panthers in their final scrimmage beginning at 6 pm at Bobcat Stadium in Medina.
