Adoracion ‘Addie’ De Leon Garsea

1929-2009

Adoracion “Addie” De Leon Garsea, 80, of Port Arthur, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 24, in Bandera. She was born to Maria de Refugio Martinez and Timotheo De Leon on August 13, 1929, in Port Arthur.

Miss Addie graduated from Port Arthur High School. She met her husband, Jim, at a fruit stand in Port Arthur shortly after his discharge from the United States Navy in 1946. Later, the couple described their meeting as “love at first sight” for both of them, and they married shortly thereafter.

In 1949, Miss Addie graduated from hair styling school in Port Arthur and became a licensed hairdresser. Since that time she continued her education by attending styling schools in Chicago, Illinois; New York; and Florida.

With her husband, she co-owned Addie & Jim’s, a very successful beauty salon in Bandera for over 60 years. Among her favorite things, Miss Addie listed taking care of her clients, many of whom became friends, and family.

A pilot, her husband also taught Miss Addie to fly, enabling the couple to enjoy many hours soaring through the sky together.

Additionally, she was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Miss Addie is survived by her beloved husband, James Garsea, and son Andy Garsea, both of Bandera; and sisters, Oralia Menchaca of Nederland, Isabel Henderson of Missouri City and Mary Helen Torres of Beaumont, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Addie was preceded in death by her parents and son Tim Garsea; two brothers, Albundio De Leon and Angelo De Leon.

Private services, under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Nederland, were held at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves on Monday, Dec. 28.

For Miss Addie’s many friends in Bandera County, a memorial service will be held from 4 pm until 7 pm, Friday, Jan. 14, at the Silver Sage Corral Senior Activity Center, 803 Buck Creek Boulevard. Everyone is invited to attend.
