Ismael 'Shorty' Villanueva

1931-2010

Ismael “Shorty” Villanueva, 78, longtime resident of Bandera, passed away on Friday, Jan. 1.

He was born in Pearsall to Edubiges and Isabel Martinez Villanueva on Sept. 21, 1931.

Ismael married Carolina Ramos on January 29, 1956, in Pearsall.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolina Villanueva of Bandera, daughters, Dolores Potts and her husband, Benton, of Farmington, New York; Chayo Sanchez of Austin; Irene Florez of Austin; Elisa Mata and her husband, Tom, of Bandera; and Elain Villanueva of Bandera; sister Delia Moreno and brother Ruben Villanueva, both of Pearsall; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

Rosary was held Monday, Jan. 4, at Grimes Funeral Chapels with Deacon Bobby Stein. A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at St Stanislaus Catholic Church by Father Stan Oleksy. Interment followed at the new Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Philip Venzor, Jesse Cardenas, Leonard Evans, Pete Martinez, Charlie Martinez and Jesse Martinez.
