Don Leslie Lewis


Born Feb. 4, 1937, Don came from a family of schoolteachers. He earned a bachelor of science in chemistry and a masters of science in physics. For 35 years he taught math, chemistry and physics in several Texas high schools and at Coastal Bend College in Beeville. Students remember him for his witty good humor and intelligence.
A life-long Methodist, Don was a loving and compassionate husband, father and friend.
Survivors include his wife, Waverly, of Shawnee, Kansas; daughter Amy of Ventura, California; brother Hugh and his wife, Hazel, of Los Angeles, California; niece Sarah of San Antonio; and nephews, David and John and their families of Austin. Don and Waverly have seven nephews, a niece, three great-nieces and eight great nephews.
Visitation was held at the. Services were held at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee on Saturday, Jan. 28, with burial following at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.
Since Don and Waverly recently moved to Shawnee from Bandera, a memorial service is planned in Bandera for early spring.
