Maurice Clement York


Maurice Clement York, husband to Gwendoline Terrell York for 54 years, died of a broken heart just four days after her passing, on Jan. 20, at his home in Pipe Creek.
He was born in Aransas Pass. Maurice attended Aransas Pass High School and Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, where he married Gwendoline M. Terrell on Sept. 1, 1956. The couple lived in Corpus Christi, San Antonio and Boerne before finally settling in Pipe Creek in 1975.
Maurice is survived by his children, Christopher York and his wife, Sue Seely York, of Spring Branch; and Kerry York Currie and her husband, Major Kent Currie, of San Antonio, and grandchildren, Spencer Currie and Lila and Reese York.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Edward Adam Burke; grandmother Ida Josephine Burke; and wife Gwen.
A Rosary was recited for Maurice and Gwen on Thursday, Jan.20, and a funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, Jan. 21, both at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Boerne, with Father Tony Cummins, Celebrant. Maurice and Gwen were laid to rest together in the Boerne Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Gwen and Maurice's pallbearers - John Andrews of San Antonio, Mike Falor of Seguin, Ronny Bain of Waco, Emelio Rodriguez of Austin, Jimmy Peer of Aransas Pass, Jeff Seely of Houston, Paul Starr of Austin, Eric Downing of Beeville, Terrell Downing of Midland, Laurence Downing of Midland and Mark Downing of Rockport.
The family would also like to extend their sincere gratitude to family friends, Marlene Huff of Corpus Christi and Geri and David Valdez of Pipe Creek, for their steadfast help and support during this time of sorrow.
