Anton Haner


Anton Haner, 90, passed away in a Bandera care facility Friday, Nov. 10, 2017. He had been a resident of Tarpley, Texas, since 1980. Prior to that, he lived in San Antonio.
Anton was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Bexar County to Lillian Anita Wander Haner and Anton Adolph Bronson Haner. As an infant he was baptized, and later in his youth was confirmed in his faith at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes, Texas. He married Marilyn Tatsch on March 25, 1950, at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in San Antonio. He served his country honorably from 1952 to 1954 in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He started his career in the auto business at Milam Chevrolet as shop foreman, then continued working at Ancira Winton before moving to Gunn Oldsmobile, where he was promoted to service manager. From 1970 to 1981 the Haners owned the Texaco service station at Bandera Road and Cheryl Drive.
Anton was very active with the Bandera County Farm Bureau, serving twice as president and served six years as state director. He was also active with the Tarpley Volunteer Fire Department, serving as chief and president, as well as serving as a certified EMT for Bandera County.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Marilyn; son, Doyle Haner and wife, Elizabeth of Tarpley; daughter, Judy Pace and husband, Tom of Tarpley; brother, Jerome Haner and wife, Barbara of Helotes; grandchildren, Corey Soderstrom and husband, Tim, Eric Haner, Willie Johnson, Holly Haner, Shawn Hamilton and wife, Lori, and Michael Hamilton and husband, Julio; and great-grandchildren, Sam Hamilton, Camden Soderstrom and Penny Hamilton.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera with the Rev. Dick Sisk officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Tarpley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
