Lois (Mamaw) Irene Rhoades McHaney Abbott

Ms. Lois (Mamaw) Irene Rhoades McHaney Abbott was born June 8, 1934, in Morgan County, Indiana, to Bert Rhoades and Ellen Warriner Rhoades. She graduated from Mooresville, Indiana High School in 1952, and has called the Texas Hill Country home since January of 1953. Her love for her many rescue dogs was only surpassed by her love for her children and grandchildren.
After retiring from her career in bookkeeping in 2009, she devoted her time to her family, animals and gardening.
She peacefully departed this life at 1:38 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, in Kerrville, Texas. Her family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Seijo Oi, Laurie, Darla, the doctors, nurses and staff at Peterson Regional Medical Center and Grimes Family Funeral Home for their loving care of our dear Mamaw.
Mamaw is survived by children, Casey Beakley, Jack and Diane McHaney and Randy McClammy; stepchildren, Sherry Abbott, Linda Mitchell, Jeff Abbott, and Connie Pritchard; grandchildren, Brooke and Bo, Brittin, Tyler, Rachel, Caleb, Averie, Kelsey and Jack; great-grandchildren, Mica, Mac, Tatum, Maci, Reid, Mackoy and Savannah; Corky and Virgie McHaney and sister, Lillian (Dinkie) Stewart; along with countless cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James, Richard (Dick), and Donald and Jane (sister-in-law) Rhoades; and sisters, Mildred Goines and Rosie Crail.
Mamaw will be remembered for her generous heart, compassion, zest for life, love for her family and friends, contagious laughter and her never-ending devotion to the San Antonio Spurs. In honor of her fondness for Ray Price, the family would like to thank you, Mamaw, "for the good times."
There will be a private memorial held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Lois would love a contribution to be made to Freeman-Fritts Animal Shelter at or to the Dietert Center at
