Wilvie DeWayne Smith


Wilvie DeWayne Smith, 93, of Bandera, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25. He was born in Sonora on August 19, 1921, to Johnnie and Daisy Smith.
Wilvie was married to Rosalynd "Sug" Parker on Sep. 28, 1941 in Uvalde.
A resident of Bandera for over 50 years, he owned and operated the Western Auto store for 33 years and, from 1970 to 1985, served numerous terms as mayor for the City of Bandera. During World War II, Wilvie also served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, DeWayne and Rosielee Smith, of San Antonio, daughter and son-in-law Sherry Delayne Smith Newsome and Edwin of Austin; grandson Dewayne Smith III of San Antonio; and great-grandsons, Jesse James Smith and Gage Anthony Smith, of San Antonio. Wilvie is also survived by his close companion and dear friend, Rose Holtzman.
Wilvie was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Rosalynd "Sug"; and brother Waylon Smith.
Beginning at noon on Saturday, Jan. 17, there will be a celebration of Wilvie's life at his home on Rugh Hill.
The Smith family also extends sincerest thanks to Rose Holtzman.
