Leona Buck

1916-2014

Leona Buck went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 27. She was born Dec. 29, 1916 in Pipe Creek.
An active member of the First Baptist Church of Boerne, Leona served as director of the Cradle Roll, enrolling many babies into the nursery. She also taught Sunday school, led singing in the Junior Choir Department and sang in the church choir.
For many years, Leona and her husband, Earl, owned Buck's Court in Boerne where she loved to bake homemade rolls and bread. Leona never needed a recipe. She knew it by heart and could whip up a batch of bread in a moment's notice.
One Thanksgiving, her church forgot to order rolls for their community dinner. The night before the feast, Leona baked numerous batches of rolls to go with the meal.
She also enjoyed embroidering towels and pillowcases.
Leona loved everyone. She always commented that loving people was what kept her alive - and everyone loved her, too. An amazing, loving and caring person, she never failed to offer her love and support.
Leona is survived by her children, Emma Jean Beck and her husband, Bob, of Levelland; James A. Buck of Pipe Creek; Curtis Buck and his wife, Ruby, of Victoria; and Sharon Earlene Ramsey of Pipe Creek, as well as by 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Bertha Lewis; her husband of 64 years, Earl Daniel Buck; son Daniel Ray Buck; grandson James A. Buck Jr.; brothers, Milton and Hubert Lewis; and sisters, Edna Lewis Buck and Ethel Lewis Bush.
The funeral was Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home. Interment followed at Pipe Creek Cemetery.
Although Leona loved flowers, she also requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society - online at www.cancer.org, by phone 1-800-227-2345, or by mail PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or to the First Baptist Church of Pipe Creek, PO Box 63147, Pipe Creek 78063.
