Sylvia Kleck, 65, of Lakehills, passed away Thursday, May 22, in San Antonio. She was born in Port Townsend, Washington on March 25, 1949, to Margaret and Daniel Pruitt.
Sylvia married William Kleck on July 18, 1998, in San Antonio.
Her father was a sergeant major in the United States Army so Sylvia's family moved often when she was young. She graduated from high school while in France. After returning to the United States, Sylvia graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in nursing.
She served as a captain in the Army as a surgical nurse and received an honorable discharge in 1982. After her service, Sylvia returned to school earning an MSN and Bachelor of Public Administration from University of Texas San Antonio. While earning her degrees, she worked as an administrative assistant for the cities of Leon Valley and Helotes.
In 1997, Sylvia returned to nursing as a rehabilitation nursing supervisor at Audie Murphy VA Hospital before being medically retired in 2006.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Bill; stepchildren, Karen Madeira and Jeffrey Kleck; brother Dan Pruitt Jr.; sister Sandi Rittgers; and step-grandchildren, Seth and Cade Madeira and Abigail and Bethany Kleck. She is also survived by her German Shepherd, Shayna and cat Gigi.
Sylvia was predeceased by her mother and father, Margaret and Dan Pruitt.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, June 21, at El Chaparral restaurant in Helotes.
Memorials may be given in Sylvia's name to the American Cancer Society or the Helotes Humane Society.
