Robert Johnson Hoyland III

Robert Johnson "Bob" Hoyland III, 73, of Bandera, died on Sunday, April 6. He was born in Arcadia on Nov. 12, 1940, to Robert Johnson Jr. and Hazel Stoneking Hoyland.
Bob graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1959 where he played football and basketball and served as class president both his junior and senior year.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Harrell, in 1960. For most of their married life, the couple lived in Spring where Bob owned his own veterinary practice from 1969 to 1998. Bob and Sandra relocated to Bandera in 2001.
A graduate of Texas A&M University, he received a bachelor degree in animal science in 1963 and a doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1964.
After graduating from vet school, Bob entered the United States Army. He was stationed in Denver and was discharged as a captain in 1967.
For many years, Bob was a strong supporter of the Spring Tri Club and served as a member of the Spring Independent School District Board of Trustees from 1974 to 1983. Spring ISD honored Bob by naming the Hoyland Elementary School after him.
Very interested in Boer goats, Bob spent almost 20 years raising them and supporting the American Boer Goats Association.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra, and the couple's five children, Shawnna Huser and her husband, Steve, of Fredericksburg; Lisa Lentz and her husband, Del Ray, of Iola; Vanessa Alton and her husband, Kenneth, of Splendora; Robert Hoyland IV and his wife, Christy, of Boerne; and Wesley Hoyland and his wife, Heather, of Spring. Bob is also survived by 13 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held at 11 am, Friday, April 11, at Pipe Creek Community Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pipe Creek Community Church or the American Cancer Society.
