Richard A. Polak Sr.

1935-2014

Richard A. Polak Sr., 78, of Bandera, formerly of Harper and Corpus Christi, passed away Thursday, March 6, in Kerrville. He was born on Nov. 16, 1935, in Harlingen to Joseph and Helen Polak.
Richard married Shari Dale Turner on June 21, 1955, in Corpus Christi. He graduated from Ray High School in Corpus Christi.
Richard began his working career with H-E-B Grocery in 1949, eventually working his way to assistant manager of the Alice store. He retired after working for 35 years as an oil refinery pumper for Coastal States Gas Corporation-El Paso Gas.
Richard is survived by daughters, Nancy Sharla Phelps and her husband, Douglas Lynn Phelps, and Melanie Kay Polak; sons, Richard Allen "Rick" Polak Jr. and his wife, Diane Rogers Polak, and Randy Dale Polak and his wife, Cheryl Ann Jamison Polak; brothers, Robert Joseph Polak and his wife, Colleen Ann Polak, and Arnold Frank Polak; grandchildren, Christopher Blayne Dreier, Bobby Joe Polak, Tristan Aaron Dreier, Ashley Jamison Polak, Haley Addison Polak, Cody James Polak, Quinton Allen Polak, Sara Elizabeth Shotts, Wyatt Tucker Shotts, Tyler Stuart Polak; Lucas Adam Phelps, Sara Katherine Phelps Mirabella, Samuel Lee Phelps, Clare Elizabeth Phelps Womack; and great-grandchildren, Caleb Douglas Mirabella, Damian Phelps, Mason Phelps, Lillian Bethany Womack, Ethan Ray Mirabella and Sawyer Ryan Riddle, as well as by many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of "adopted" children who were welcomed into the home of Richard and Shari. Richard was predeceased by his loving wife Shari of 56 years; beloved grandparents, Frank and Betty Pacal; parents Joseph and Helen Polak; and lifelong friend, Jimmy Reindl.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 15, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Bandera, with Fr. Allan Conkling officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Barnabus Episcopal Church columbarium at a later date where he will join Shari. Honorary pallbearers were Richard's grandchildren.
Memorials may be dedicated to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.
