Audrey Aileen Lautzenheiser

Audrey Aileen Lautzenheiser, 87, of Medina, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28. She was born on Dec. 12, 1926, in Rio Hondo.

Audrey grew up in Kingsville and attended Texas A&I studying chemistry. She married Lautzy on Jan. 1, 1948, and the couple moved to Medina in 1961.

Audrey became involved in the community as a member of the Medina Rose Garden Club, the Medina Independent School Board and the Bandera County Library Board of Directors. She also involved herself in local politics, assisting several political campaigns.

Those who met Audrey may have been initially shocked, intimidated or placed off-balance by her direct and immediate expression of her exact thoughts and feelings. She never pulled any punches. However, once they got to know her, they realized her loving nature. We are Lautzenheiser and Bayliss, Lang and Lovett, Smith and Castillo, Kelly, Rackel and Martin, but Audrey taught us we are all family.

She is survived by her children, Eric Lautzenheiser and David Smith of San Antonio; Andy and Patty Lautzenheiser of Medina; Ann and Steve Lovett of College Station; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her sister, Nettie Simpson.

Audrey was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Clarence "Lautzy"; and her parents, Milton and Opal Nash Bayliss.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the loving friends Audrey made with Visiting Angels and Odyssey Hospice.

Memorials may be given in Audrey's name to Medina United Methodist Church.

Arrangements were entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.
