Joseph Michael 'JoeMike' Johnson

Joseph Michael "JoeMike" Johnson, 69, of Bandera, was called to Heaven on Saturday, Dec. 21. He was born May 12, 1944, in Floydada, Texas to Doris Armstrong Johnson and William David Johnson.

Although diagnosed with lung cancer six months ago, JoeMike chose to live life to the fullest everyday. He was eternally grateful for all his blessings and passed peacefully in his sleep into the arms of his Savior.

Later, his occupation for many years was working as a real cowboy on large ranches in the Texas Panhandle, South Dakota and Montana. JoeMike also loved serving as a riding instructor for physically and mentally challenged students at the Triple H Equitherapy Center in Pipe Creek. He worked there for 12 years.

JoeMike is survived by his beloved son, Michael Scott Nickels, of Wichita, Kansas; grandson Michael Shane Nickels; loving sunshine Julie Elise; and nephew Johnny Johnson of Bandera, as well as by many more aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews great-nieces and great-nephews, who all loved him dearly and will miss him.

He was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth and Dale and dear sister Jane.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm, Friday, Dec. 27, at the Western Heritage Cowboy Church in Pipe Creek.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in JoeMike's name be made to the Bandera County Animal Shelter.
