Fredrick Allen 'Fritz' Hopperstead
Fredrick Allen 'Fritz' Hopperstead , 74, of Pipe Creek, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8. He was born in Princeton, Minnesota, on Feb. 17, 1939, to Ingvald and Rose Hopperstead.
Fritz married Sue Carol Rowley on June 29, 1963, in the Sabinal United Methodist Church.
He attended North Texas State University in Denton, graduating with a degree in mathematics and secondary education. He began his computer career at NASA Houston, and was instrumental in the launch of the first space shuttle.
After working at the National Security Agency in Maryland, Fritz went on to install the first computerized reservation system for United Airlines in Arlington Heights, Illinois. After returning to Irving, Texas, in 1968, Fritz worked for Harris Corporation.
In 1976, he moved to San Jose, California, to work for ISD Computer Corporation. Later, Fritz ventured into computer start-up companies throughout the California Bay Area and Silicon Valley, including Autodesk, Inc.
Fritz began participation in the Masonic Blue Lodge in Mountain View, California. He was a Shriner Mason, a 33rd degree Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He continued with Bandera Masonic Lodge 1123, serving twice as Past Master.
Fritz retired to his home in Pipe Creek in 1995, where he passed surrounded by family and loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Carol Hopperstead; daughters, Deanna Lyn Dickson and her husband, Donald; and Julie Ann Dougherty and her husband, Michael; grandchildren, Micaela, Stephen, Bryce, Brenna and Tanner; and sister Ann Noakes of Sinton.
Fritz will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he touched.
Memorial services will take place at 10 am, Thursday, Dec. 12, at Lakehills United Methodist Church.
Masonic graveside service will be held at 3:30 pm, Thursday, Dec. 12, in Sabinal, under the auspices of Bandera Masonic Lodge 1123 AF&AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Lakehills United Methodist Church.
