Stanley R. Scruby
Stanley R. Scruby, 83, of Bandera, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, in Bandera. He was born in Chillicothe, Missouri on August 30, 1930 to Stanley R. Scruby, Sr. and Elsie Mengheni.
Stanley was married twice.
He went to school at Columbia, Missouri, graduating from the University of Missouri with a degree in mechanical engineering. After beginning his career in pneumatic conveying, Stanley was later involved in the startup of numerous companies, including banking, real estate development, quarter horse racing and breeding.
A life member of the American Quarter Horse Association, he started Bandera Downs Race Track in Bandera.
Stanley served in the United States Army and worked at the Pentagon. He was also a 32nd degree Mason.
Stanley is survived by his four daughters, Beth Pautler and her husband, Paul; Leslie Mooney and her husband, Terry; Jennifer Brown and her husband, Eric; and Karen Castor and her husband, Wayne; son Reed Scruby; sister Jane Phillips; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Stanley was predeceased by his parents.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 9, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera.
