Karen Kay Hockridge Clark
Surrounded by family and friends, Karen Kay Hockridge Clark, 71, passed on to her Lord on Thursday, August 28. She was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on Dec. 26, 1941 to Albert and Carolyne Hockridge.
Karen attended elementary school in Marshalltown and graduated from high school at Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa in May 1960. In 1974, she received her RN degree from Saint Lukes School of Nursing in Davenport, Iowa.
Karen's first nursing job was with Head Start Program in Muscatine, Iowa. Because she loved children, this job was very rewarding for her.
During her career she worked in many health care systems around the country, including Phoenix, Arizona and Monterey, California.
Karen married Kenneth Clark on Dec. 30, 2006 at Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church in Bandera. The wedding was the first in the area to be co-officiated by both the Episcopal and Methodist Church.
Karen became active in the community, doing volunteer work at the Silver Sage Community Center and joining the Blushing Beauties Red Hat Society of Bandera. She often spoke of the group's many fun times.
Also active in the Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church of Bandera, she headed the Altar Guild, joined both the choir and Daughters of the King, served as former president of the (ECW) and was involved in the EFM four-year course.
After retiring from nursing, Karen and Ken traveled across the United States, Canada and Mexico. She especially loved visiting the country's national parks.
Karen was known for her great sense of humor, which she displayed on a regular basis. She made sure she passed this to future generations and that tradition is being carried on.
She also loved spending time with her family and grand kids.
Karen is survived by her husband, Kenneth Clark of Bandera; son Anthony Hein and Diane Garrow of Muscatine; daughter Wendy Hein and Chad Stalkfleet of Letts, Iowa; grandson Jordan Rubio, granddaughter Diana Rubio and great-granddaughter, Marly Jayne Vinson, all of Muscatine; brother, Ronald Hockridge and his wife, BJ, of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; niece Kym Lavitschke and her husband, Brian, of West Fargo, North Dakota; and niece Michelle DesJardin of Plymouth, Minnesota.
Karen was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Carolyne Hockridge, and daughter-in-law Nami King-Hein.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm, Saturday, August 31, at Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church, Bandera. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Christopher's rain catchment system.
