Coach Earl Byerley
Coach Earl Byerley, 74, of Bandera, passed away Friday, August 23, in a hospital in Aspen, Colorado, while traveling home from a family vacation in Wyoming. "Coach," as he was known throughout the Bandera County community, was born on July 2, 1939, in Seagraves to Horace Bishop Byerley and Floy Jones Byerley.
Coach Byerley married Doreen Vradenburg on July 5, 1974, in Kerrville.
After attending grade school in Levelland, he graduated from Petersburg High School. He also attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene and received a bachelor's degree from West Texas State University in Canyon and a master's degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville.
Prior to retiring in 1996, Coach Byerley coached high school football and baseball. He was also very passionate about UT Longhorn Athletics, but followed all sports faithfully.
Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Doreen Byerley, of Bandera; daughter Rebecca Lynn Frierson and her husband, Kevin, of Rockwall; sons, Robert Earl Byerley Jr. of Dallas; Bradley Bishop Byerley and his wife, Dawn, of Corpus Christi; and Bart Allen Byerley and fiancé Sarah McClane of Boerne; grandchildren, Shelby and Bailey Frierson, and Sydney, Paige, and Dillon Byerley; numerous nieces and nephews, including Mike and Chris Byerley; and sisters-in-law, Dott and Theresa Byerley.
Coach Byerley was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Horace Bishop Byerley Jr. and Walter Edward Byerley; and sister Leatrice Jett Campbell.
Services were held Friday, August 30, at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera with Mr. Martin Smith officiating.
Interment followed at Bandera Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Byerley, Chris Byerley, Eric Lawlis, Mike Williamson, Brett Morris, Stan Payne, Randy Morrison, Steve Kidd, Bob Shearhart and Mike Lenz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Bandera High School or to the Cowboy Capital Pet Assistance League (CCPAL).
