Jack Roy Mackey, 84, of Bandera, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, at a care facility in Kerrville. He was born on Oct. 16, 1928 in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, to William Wiley and Mae Etta Evans Mackey.
While growing up, Jack became a talented boxer active in the local boxing organization.
On Dec. 17, 1951 he married Barbara Colson in Angleton, Texas. Jack proudly served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. While serving his country, he received four service medals.
He moved from Oklahoma to Freeport in 1951 to work for Dow Chemical. He and his family resided in the Jones Creek area of Freeport where he served as a deacon of the Jones Creek Baptist Church from 1967-1994.
Jack retired after working for Dow 32 years. In October 1994, he and his wife moved to Bandera. That same year, he became a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Bandera.
Jack is survived by his wife, Barbara Mackey, of Bandera; daughters, Lisa Bradley and her husband, Jack, of Natalia, and Kelly Frederick of Lake Jackson; son William Charles "Chuck" Mackey of McAlester, Oklahoma; and grandchildren, Jacob, Jamie and Joshua Bradley; Kirby, Mandi and Chance, Katie and Wendell Mackey; Jessica Cash and her husband, Colby; and Elizabeth Frederick; and great-grandchild, Colby Cash, Jr. Jack was also survived by four nieces and seven nephews.
He was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters.
A funeral service was held Sunday, Nov. 25, at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera with Pastor David Collett officiating.
