James William Arnce, 87, of Vanderpool, passed away on Friday, Sept. 21, in Kerrville. He was born on August 19, 1925, in Prosperity, Missouri to Ervin William and Edith Euraine Schaeffer Arnce.
On November 5, 1949, Mr. Arnce married Florene Polvado in Stevensville, Arkansas.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and was awarded three Bronze Stars for his bravery during the European Campaign.
Mr. Arnce attended college in Joplin, Missouri with a major in pre-med. An ordained minister, he also attended seminary in Baxter Springs, Kansas.
He worked for Dupont Chemical in Missouri before transferring to Dupont in Beaumont. Mr. Arnce retired from Dupont Chemical after 37 years. He was also a very talented artist.
Survivors include his wife, Florene Polvado Arnce, of Vanderpool; daughters, Glenda Slaughter and her husband, Thomas, of Vanderpool, and Kathy Johnson and her husband, Craig, of Bryan; sister Elois McClung of Joplin; grandchildren, Nicholas Swift and his wife, Amanda; Jennifer Skrabanek; Meghann Skrabanek; and Christopher Johnson; and great-grandchild Hayden Skrabanek.
Mr. Arnce was predeceased by his parents, daughter Judy Skrabanek in 2009 and three brothers, Clifford, Robert "Bob" and Harvey Arnce.
A graveside service was held at Vanderpool Cemetery on Tuesday, Sept. 25.
