Daniel Lee Watkins

1961-2012

Daniel Lee Watkins, 51, died Friday, Sept. 14, in Kerrville with his family by his side. He was born to Doug and Margie Watkins in Corpus Christi on March 12, 1961.

After the family moved to Medina in 1971, Dan spent most of his time outdoors, running all over Medina with his buddies. He graduated from Medina High School and joined the United States Navy.

Dan retired from the Navy after serving 22 honorable years. He was a disabled veteran and a Mason.

He is survived by his parents, Doug and Margie Watkins, of Medina; sister Debbie Wilkinson and her husband, Glen, of Premont; niece Courtney O'Gorman and her husband, Chad, and the couple's three children, Maegan, Parker and Peyton, of
Columbia, Missouri; niece Tiffany Throckmorton and her husband, Jonathan, and their three children, Quinten, Connor and Mason, of Oxnard, California; niece Elizabeth Burke and her husband, Logan, and their three children, Leia, Merik and Malachi, of Austin; niece Lindsey Shumway and her husband, Doug, and a baby on the way from Salt Lake City, Utah; nephew, Samuel Wilkinson and his wife, Rebecca, of College Station; and aunt Patricia Martinez and her husband of Aransas Pass.

A memorial graveside service was held Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at the Oak Rest Cemetery in Medina.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in Dan's name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
