Donald L. MacDonald

1925-2012

Donald L. "Mac" MacDonald, 87, of Lakehills, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 6, in Kerrville. He was born in Rochester, New York to George and Alice MacDonald on April 6, 1925.

Donald married Fern A. Guyette on Feb. 14, 1963 in Spencerport, New York.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged from his duties in 1946. Donald worked as a machinist for the General Railway Signal. He also retired from employment with Bandera County where he was instrumental in starting the Lakehills trash compactor and yard.

Donald is survived by daughter Susan Bergeben and her husband, Richard, of Hinsdale, New York; son William S. Mattern and his wife, Faythe, of Arizona; grandchildren, Todd Perna and his wife, Jymie, of Converse; Michael Mattern and his wife, Marge, of New York; Shelley Mattern of New York; Donald Mattern of Abilene; David Chupp and his wife, Amber, of Kerrville; TJ Mattern of New York; and Jimmy Haynes of New York; and great-grandchildren, Sheila Kline, Ashley Perna, Audrey Perna, Kayla Gannon, Sam Chupp, Rachel Chupp, Abbie Mattern, Dakota Mattern and Sarah Mattern, as well as by numerous other great-grandchildren in New York.

Donald was predeceased by his parents, wife Fern MacDonald, son Clifford Mattern, daughter Kathleen Faglie Mattern and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Monday, Sept. 17, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
