Christopher James Langford

1947-2012

On Wednesday, August 1, Christopher James Langford passed away suddenly at his home in Bandera. Born in Chester, England in 1947, he graduated from Chester City Grammar School in 1963.

After leaving his employment at a zoo and his family's bed and breakfast in 1964, Mr. Langford immigrated to the United States, settling in San Antonio. Throughout his life he claimed, "I wasn't born a Texan, but I got here as fast as I could."
Donning his "Administrator's Nephew" name tag, he began an interest in computers in San Antonio and ended up working on large main frame systems at Santa Rosa Hospital, Frost Bank and Trinity University. Self-employed with his own business, Cestrian Software, Mr. Langford worked as a contractor for Southwest Research and Marcive and several other companies.

His love of computers was rivaled by his passion for woodworking. The pieces this one-armed woodworker created possessed an elegance that was frequently envied and appreciated by many a dual-armed woodworker.

Never as a tourist but always as an accomplished traveler, Mr. Langford visited many places, often toting back a T-shirt to claim "been there, done that."

As the host of unparalleled parties, he could easily bring a smile with his dry sarcasm and charming wit.

Mr. Langford, who will be missed by a vast many, is survived by his daughter, Colleen Langford; brother Anthony Langford; nephews and nieces, Mark Cooper, David Langford, Angie Cooper and Michelle Langford.

Friends celebrated his life with stories, memories and good whiskey on Friday August 17, at Ye Kendall Inn, in Boerne. Condolences may be sent to the family by clicking on the "Send Condolences" link at

Arrangements were entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.
