Sanctioned Chuck Wagon Races - Cowboys' NASCAR

BCC Staff

What is it about men and wheels?

Since the first wheel was invented, it seems men have always tried to find a way for them to go faster and cowboys aren't any different.
On Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15, Bandera's Twin Elm Guest Ranch will host the first and only sanctioned Chuck Wagon Races in Texas. A preliminary to the National Chuck Wagon Finals in Clinton, Arkansas, these races will not disappoint anyone who likes heart-pounding action!
Over 40 teams have already scrambled to get a race slot at the event. Each racing team consists of a cook, a driver and an outrider. Chuck wagon racers compete in a series of one-on-one, high-speed battles, where a sharp turn can send a wagon tumbling. Competitions include races for 46- and 52-inch mules, 46- and 52-inch ponies, big horses and big mules, classic and mini classics. This event is not for the faint of heart. Fast and furious, wild and crazy, Chuck Wagon Racing makes NASCAR seem tame!
The weekend brings other events as well. Bring your fastest horse and enter the "Great Hill Country Ridin' for the Brand Race" - over the river and through the woods and the fastest horse wins! Other competitions include "Horseback Tug of War" and the "Side-Saddle Skedaddle" that features contestants wearing dresses only who that must ride with both feet on one side of the saddle. Arts and crafts, great food, a Friday night rodeo and an evening chuck wagon dinner and show on Saturday are also on tap.
Everyone is urged to bring rigs, tents, horses, wives and kids. Camp all week out among the stars, rent a room at the ranch or hook up at RV sites. It's a great way to hang out with horse-minded people.
