Bandera Dance Club changes venue for 2011 season

By Judith Pannebaker BCC

The first session of the Bandera Dance Club will take place Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Silver Sage Corral Senior Activity Center, 803 Buck Creek Boulevard. Dances are held from 7 pm to 11 pm with free dance classes beginning at 6 pm. Doors open at 5:30 pm.
Other dances in 2011 will be held:
• Friday, March 4
• Friday, April 8
• Friday, May 6
• Saturday, Oct. 29
• Friday, Dec. 16
In addition, a bonus dance will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, at the historic Silver Spur Dance Hall on Rugh Hill.
Membership fee for the Bandera Dance Club is $75 per person, which can be made in three equal payments. Additionally, guests or non-members are $15 at the door.
The Almost Patsy Cline Band will provide music for all dances. Patrons are reminded to bring their own snacks and libations; however, sodas and ice will be available during all dances.
Bandera Dance Club members are asked to note the change of venue from The Farm Country Club to the Silver Sage Corral. According to Lanette Pennell, a still-shrinking economy necessitated the charge. “We very much love the Farm Country Club and Homer and Kathy Stevens have always been wonderful, but we needed to tighten our belts somewhat,” she said.
The Silver Sage is a smoke-free and climate-controlled facility. “For you ladies - the Silver Sage is on a paved street so you won’t have to walk through mud or rocks to walk to get to the building,” Pennell explained. “During good weather, we can expand into the patio and garden areas.”
Although the dance floor is level and smooth, she promised to “put out a little dance wax” for those who need it.
Since space is more limited at the Silver Sage, everyone is urged to do the “down home, country thing” and share tables. Tables will still be available on a first come, first serve basis.
