Veterans’ celebrations announced

Contributed

Bandera Honors Veterans Committee, a unit of American Legion Post 157, will sponsor a “Break Bread with a Veteran” campaign which runs from Saturday, Nov. 6, through Saturday, Nov. 13.

The campaign allows citizens to honor those who have served or who are currently serving with a meal with family or friends at participating local restaurants.

Restaurant gift certificates begin at $20 or more (does not include gratuity) and include premier seating for two at the Bandera Honors Veterans Ceremony and Parade on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Bandera County Courthouse. The veterans ceremony begins at 9 am and the parade kicks off at 11 am.

Participating restaurants include:
• Brick’s River Café, 1205 Main Street, 830-460-3200
• China Bowl, 1206 Pecan Street, 830-460-8494
• OST Restaurant, 305 Main Street, 830-796-3835
• Apizza Mia, 9504 FM 1283 in Lakehills, 830-751-3555
• Patios Del Lago, 9600 FM 1283 in Lakehills, 830-612-2077
• Pipe Creek Junction, 9878 Highway 16 South in Pipe Creek, 830-535-6767

Another way to express appreciation for veterans is to join the Grateful American Challenge. When a special challenge coin is purchased and given to a veteran, 100 percent of the proceeds go to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and Paws for Patriots. Coins are $7 each. For more information on this effort, visit www.gratefulamericancoin.org. The organization is a 501c(3) nonprofit so all donations are tax deductible.

Coins can be purchased at all participating restaurants, as well as at American Legion Post 157, 205 12th Street, from 1 pm to 3 pm, Nov. 3 through Nov. 5, and at Bingo Nights, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5.

Coins will also be available at the Bandera County Chamber of Commerce, 331 Main Street, now through Nov. 5.

In addition, veterans will be honored in a special night of celebration on from 6 pm to 9 pm, on Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11, at the 11th Street Cowboy Bar.

The $7 donation admission to the “Honoring All Who Served” event will be used to provide a commemorative challenge coin to a veteran. Veterans will be admitted free. The evening also includes an old-fashioned All-American hotdog roast.
Admission entitles participants to a free freshly roasted weiner. Beer will be $1 each for active duty military.

Military families are encouraged to attend this event.
