Ward receives Republican Volunteer of the Year award


The Republican Party of Texas (RPT) named Lila Ward of Lakehills as the winner of the Volunteer of the Year (VOY) Award for Senate District 19 at a ceremony held recently in Austin.

The RPT honors one volunteer from each senatorial district and auxiliary organization at the biennial event. Award recipients are individuals who have helped accomplish Republican victories over the last two years.

Ward was the first Bandera County Republican Party Chairman. She currently serves as campaign activity chairman for the Bandera County Republican Women and as election chairman for Precinct 203. “We are all so proud of Miss Lila,” said BCRW President Linda James. “She an asset to Bandera County and the Bandera County Republican Women.”

Ward is the mother of former longtime Bandera County Sheriff James McMillan.

During the ceremony, dinner host Governor Rick Perry offered the keynote address. Sponsors Attorney General Greg Abbott, former Secretary of State Roger Williams and Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson also participated in the ceremony.

Other sponsors included Comptroller of Public Accounts Susan Combs, Railroad Commissioner Elizabeth Ames Jones, Harris County School Trustee Mike Wolfe and Lone Star College Trustee Chris Daniel.

The Texas A&M University Singing Cadets, under the direction of David Kipp and accompanied by Condy Carter, provided the musical entertainment was provided.

RPT Chairman Cathie Adams conducted the awards presentation with Vice Chairman Robin Armstrong serving as master of ceremonies.
