Karen Harris to speak at Republican Women meeting

Vice Chairman to the Texas Governor's Commission for Women, Karen Harris

Karen Harris, Vice Chairman to the Texas Governor's Commission for Women, will speak at the Bandera County Republican Women meeting Thursday, Oct. 5. Karen and her husband, Edmund, split their time between Austin and Lakehills. Wife, mother, grandmother, businesswoman, political activist, woman of faith — she has many arrows in her quiver.
Harris earned a degree in radiologic science from Virginia Commonwealth University and has owned and managed clinics with her husband of 33 years. She has studied the Constitution, been a tax preparer, and is proud to say her professional volunteer service started more than 30 years ago. Mrs. Harris is also an ordained minister and trained Christian counselor.
Harris received two appointments from Governor Rick Perry. One of them was to the Health and Human Services Commission Council, which assists in developing policies and rules for the Health and Human Services Commission. She has also served on the Academic Achievement Distinction Designation Committee as a gubernatorial appointee. This committee is charged with assisting the Texas Education Agency in developing the criteria for campus merit in the area of academic achievement in reading/English language arts and mathematics.
Harris is a writer, published author, and a regular contributing political opinion columnist to local papers. She has testified in senate committee. Most recently she ran for a seat in the Texas House of Representatives for District 53.
