HCM diabetes education classes scheduled for Aug-Sep

As part of ongoing diabetes education efforts, the Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center will host several classes beginning Aug. 17.
For individuals diagnosed with diabetes, a “Self-Care Management of Diabetes” seminar will be held on Thurs., Aug. 17 from 9 a.m.-noon. This seminar will be presented again on Thurs., Sept. 21 from 9 a.m.-noon.
Nanette Tisdale, a registered nurse and diabetes educator, will lead the seminars.
For individuals and family members interested in learning about risk factors for pre-diabetes and diabetes, HCM will host a free “What Is Pre-Diabetes?” class on Thurs., Aug. 31 from noon-1 p.m.
Kim Thornton, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, will lead the class and will be assisted by registered dietitian Chelsea Edwards.
The “What Is Pre-Diabetes?” class will also be offered on Thurs., Sept. 21 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
“Whether you are concerned about your risk for diabetes, or if you have already been diagnosed,” said Thornton, “you can still make healthy choices and changes. Those changes begin with education.”
All diabetes education classes are held at the HCM Wellness Center at 1006 S. State Hwy. 16 in Fredericksburg.
Space is limited, and registration is requested.
The cost of the “Self-Care Management of Diabetes” seminar is covered by most insurance plans and by Medicare. A physician’s order is required for insurance coverage, and the HCM Wellness Center staff will help prospective attendees obtain an order if needed.
