Nonfiction and Memoir Writing Workshop with Justin Rogers

Contributed

Creative nonfiction is a mix of techniques and ideas that can be in the form of an essay, a journal article, a research paper, a memoir, or a poem. Your writing does not have to be personal. Writers can use the techniques that fiction writers, playwrights, and poets, employ to present nonfiction. The difference is that these works feature factually accurate prose about real people and events in a compelling, vivid, dramatic manner.
Justin Rogers, instructor for the course, says "Writing nonfiction is the same as writing fiction so we'll be using all the same strategies that fiction and novel writers do in order to tell a good story, such as, setting, dialogue, and plotline. You'll be doing a lot of writing over the course of the workshop and I want everyone to walk away with quality work."
The course runs for three weeks in the month of July, every Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm. The dates are July 12th, 19th, and 26th. The fee for the entire workshop (all three weeks) is $100 or $80 for HCAF members. If you wish, you may attend one session for $50.
Justin Rogers is a resident of Kerrville who got his BA in English from Schreiner and just returned from New Mexico where he finished his Masters in English. In August, he begins doctoral courses in English at Texas A&M. He has taught writing workshops before at HCAF.
