A Thought for the Week

by John M Grimes

"Certain thoughts are prayers. There are moments when, whatever be the attitude of the body, the soul is on its knees." - Victor Hugo
We live in a very stressful world today . . . We have stresses in our daily problems, in our daily work, in our daily home life.
We are all subjects to the knocks and jolts, to heartaches and disappointments. These can have a pile-up effect that doctors call stress. To many people it seems there is nothing they can do to make themselves immune to stress.
There is something we can all do to lessen the difficulties or unhappiness we are encountering. We can "drop out" for a few minutes a day. We can empty ourselves through prayer . . . talking to Him as though He were physically present. We can unburden ourselves . . . Yes, we can counteract stress with moments of absolute peace. Moments like this restore us and charge us with energy for what lies ahead. They give us inner perspective.
National Day of Prayer is May 6th. Prayer can and does work. These "drop out" moments can nurture us and fill us with the fullness of God and help us along the way . . . Not only on May 6th, but every day of the year..................
