Silver Sage giving back locally with Silver Ticket

Special to the Courier

The Silver Sage is having an unusual fundraiser this year. Instead of asking local merchants to donate items to auction at an event, the Silver Sage is having a raffle that will put $15,000.00 in prize money right back into the local economy.
The Silver Tickets are being sold by local merchants as well as many citizens. Tickets are $100.00 each and only 1000 will be sold. There will be five winning Silver Tickets valued at $1,000, $2,000, $3,000, $4,000, and $5,000. The prizes will be awarded in gift certificates to any participating merchant in Bandera County. So, if you win the $5,000 prize, the Silver Sage will contact you and ask which merchant or merchants you would like a gift certificate from. The Silver Sage will then purchase those gift certificates from the merchants and deliver them to you. The gift certificates may only be used for goods or services and may not be redeemed for cash. The drawing will be held when all the tickets are sold or no later than New Year’s Eve. For a complete list of rules go to www.silversagecorral.org .
By purchasing a Silver Ticket you will not only be supporting the local economy but you will also be supporting The Silver Sage. The Silver Sage is the sole provider of Meals on Wheels in Bandera County. It is our mission to "Enrich the Life of Seniors" and our vision to "Create a Community Where Every Senior Citizen is Significant". We can only do this with your help.
Last year the State of Texas helped us by paying for a portion of 17,046 meals leaving the Silver Sage to raise money and pay for the other 10,332 meals for seniors from our own budget. This year with the increasing elderly population of our county, the Silver Sage has more than doubled the amount of meals served. For this fiscal year the State of Texas payed for a portion of 18,617 meals, a 10% increase, while the Silver Sage was left to fund 22,453 senior meals, a more than 100% increase. A grand total of 41,070 meals were served to senior citizens in Bandera County this year from Vanderpool to Lakehills and Medina to Pipe Creek.
Maybe you have heard about the senior farmers market. The Silver Sage is also giving away about 3000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetable to senior citizens weekly. Another great new program this year is the "Adopt a Senior" program. The Silver Sage also works with other local groups like the Methodist Church and now the high school to coordinate some light home maintenance for senior citizens who could otherwise not afford it.
The Silver Sage is here to support and strive to meet the needs of every senior citizen in our county. The Silver Sage DOES NOT receive any federal money, does receive some reimbursements from the State of Texas, does receive $20,000.00 annual support from Bandera County, does receive grants from various foundations, and DOES NEED to receive support from you.
The Silver Sage could not operate at the current level of excellence it does without the support of over 200 volunteers and the financial support of concerned citizens.
If you own a business in Bandera County and have not signed up to be a participating merchant, please call the Silver Sage. If you are an individual that would like to help sell tickets to your friends and neighbors, please call the Silver Sage. If you just want to buy a ticket or make a donation, please call the Silver Sage.
The Silver Sage and all of the staff would like to say a great big thank you to everyone for making The Silver Ticket Raffle such a success.
