America Recycles Day, a program of Keep America Beautiful, is a nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. Every year on or around November 15 (America Recycles Day) thousands of events are held across the nation to educate neighbors, friends and colleagues about recycling.
Keep Utopia Beautiful will be participating in America Recycles Day this year by holding an Electronics Recycling opportunity for Utopia and the surrounding area four different days during the month of November. The Electronics Recycling events will be held from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 15; Thursday, Nov. 17; Saturday, Nov. 19; and Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Utopia Recycles located on County Road 357 off of Farm to Market Road 1050. Bring your unwanted electronics (working or not) where Utopia Recycles will be accepting all kinds and sizes of TVs and computers (laptops and PCs). Items accepted include VCR machines, DVD players, CD players, rear projection TVs, console TVs, flat screen TVs, external hard drives, mice/joy sticks, monitors, keyboards, desktop scanners/copiers, printers, plus other items that are commonly found with TVs and computers, such as connectors and cables. It’s important to wipe hard drives clean if possible.
OTHER ACCEPTABLE MATERIALS include cables and cords, phones, digital cameras, fax machines, gaming consoles, keyboards, microwave ovens, modems, networking equipment, power supplies, printed circuit boards, radios, routers, servers, stereo components, switches, drives, and test equipment. UNACCEPTABLE MATERIALS include bio-hazards, compressors, lamps, electric toys, air conditioners, household appliances (refrigerators, dish washers, etc.), lawn equipment, smoke alarms, toaster ovens, electric tools, vacuum cleaners, and wood speakers.
These four days of electronic recycling gives Utopia residents and the surrounding area an opportunity to help keep electronics out of the landfill by disposing of them responsibly. Not only Utopia residents, but folks from the surrounding area such as Uvalde, Bandera, Real and Medina Counties are welcome. There is no charge for dropping off your electronic recyclables; however, cash donations in support of recycling in Utopia are gratefully accepted.
