Commissioners’ Court

By Steven James BCC Editor

The Bandera County Commissioners’ Court approved a minimum $25,000 grant to the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District to create a new flood atlas and to install high-intensity rainfall gauges to better predict flooding.
The $25,000 will be added to the $265,150 Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) grant the BCRAGD received last month to implement more flood safety provisions.
“One of the things in the area that we know is going to happen is flooding,” said U.S. Geological Survey hydrologist Doug Schnoebelen, who gave the presentation about the atlas and gauges. “I don’t have to be a psychic to tell you that we’re going to have floods and droughts. The Hill Country is unique with the severe rains that occur here—the steep terrain, the shallow soil cover.”
