The Art in the Library program at the Lakehills Area Library, 7200 FM 1283, will feature the work of an accomplished and award winning photographer, Michael W. Tidwell, along with the pottery of Rhonda Drake.
Tidwell is best known for landscape, lighting and nature photography showcasing the beauty of the Texas Hill Country. Bill Taylor, KENS-5 meteorologist, described Tidwell’s photograph of “Insane Tower Lightning” as “some of the most phenomenal photography I think I’ve ever seen.”
Tidwell’s “Pond at Lost Maples” won the overall People’s Choice award at ViewFinder’s Photography Contest at SwRI and “English Crossing Fall Foliage” placed third in the Texas Hill Country Magazine Cover Photo Contest. He has practiced digital photography for many years and now offers his prints for sale.
A practicing organic and medicinal chemist for many years, Tidwell is currently a research scientist in Medicinal and Process Chemistry at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio.
Rhonda Drake started her pottery lessons several years ago at Mudworks Pottery Studio in Boerne. As a physical therapist, she works all day with her hands on people, helping them to get better and feel better, but states that “working with my hands doing pottery I am somehow re-energized.”
Drake credits her weekly pottery sessions with teaching her many lessons about life, noting, “Hobbies are good for you, the journey is what counts and relationships matter more than things.”
To view her functional, food safe and one-of-a-kind pieces, the library exhibit will be open during regular hours, from Sept. 10 until Oct. 8. Hours are 10 am to 7 pm, Monday and Thursday; 10 am to 5 pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; and 10 am to 2 pm Saturday.
