What the Sam Hill is going on?

This image shows just one of the several overflowing trash barrels and strewn garbage that greeted visitors and pet parade participants to Bandera City Park the morning of Monday, July 4. Traditionally, the park, located along the banks of the meandering Medina River, is heavily used during holiday weekends – and this year’s bonus three-day Independence Day weekend apparently proved no exception. It would have behooved Public Works Director Roy Clayton to offer overtime to his crews or even add an extra person or two to keep one of the city’s biggest revenue producers pristine. A landscape of garbage, trash and litter in City Park is unacceptable and, in the words of everyone confronted with such a shocking sight: “Something needs to be done!”
