DRT Chapter Members Attend State Convention

Seventeen members of the Joshua D. Brown Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas attended the State Convention in Addison, Texas, held May 12 - 14. The theme of the convention was “Celebrating 125 Years of Preserving Texas History.”
Representing the chapter were Nancy McLarry, Julie Mickits, Judy McVay, and Deana Dack of Boerne; Shirley Pfeiffer, GayNell Wells, Wanda Halmon, Rebecca Kuykendall, Brenda Humphrey, and Harriet Saunders of Kerrville; Delores Uribe, Fayrene Craddock, Tammy Kneuper, and Trish Robinson of Medina; Jaye Lynn Watson of Alice; Brett Santos of Houston; and Martha Batchelor of Hot Springs Village, AR.
The chapter was awarded six-star status for the thirteenth time. Requirements include having a chapter of the CRT, presenting programs on Texas history to various groups, donating books on Texas history or Texas flags to schools, celebrating Texas Honor Days and entries to the DRT History Museum’s art contest.
The chapter also received honorable mention for publicity, and GayNell Wells, former chapter president, completed her term as district representative from District VIII.
On May 23, the chapter held its final meeting before the summer break and celebrated with a luncheon at the Kroc Center in Kerrville.
Six new members were inducted at the luncheon, including Karen Keese, Cathy Holub, E.J. Rutherford, Patricia Robinson and Lois McGarity, all of Medina, and Anne Lieck of Boerne.
Members of the DRT are direct descendants of men or women who honorably served the Republic of Texas before February 1846.
