DRT announces essay contest winners

Winners of the 2016 Essay Contest underwritten by the Joshua D. Brown Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas were announced at the March meeting by Chapter President Pat Gaines.
The subject of the essay was “European Immigrants in the Republic of Texas.” The first place winner was Anthony Jones of Notre Dame Catholic School. Marcus Martinez, also of Notre Dame Catholic School, won second place, and Sarah Geistweidt of Comfort Middle School won third.
The seventh grade students read their essays for members and their parents, and were presented withcertificates and cash awards.
Anthony is the son of Lisa Jones; Marcus’s parents are Jorge and Cristina Martinez; and Sarah is the daughter of David and Amy Geistweidt.
The Joshua D. Brown Chapter is hosting a free Texas Lineage Day for anyone interested in finding Texas Patriots in their family tree. A Texas Patriot is an ancestor who came to Texas before February 19, 1846.
