Once again, the National Reenactment Guild of America (RGA) has selected the Cowboy Capital of the World as a location for 2016 reenactment competitions. The events will feature cowboys and Indians, tall tales and teepees, games of Graces, arts and crafts and horseback and wagon rides. Kids can participate in fun things that kids did in the 1800s. Admission is free.
The Reenactment Guild of America includes living historians, educators, entertainers and reenactors dedicated to the preservation of and education about the history of America’s 19th Century, primarily the American Old West. RGA is dedicated to accurate and historical presentations and guild members provide safe venues that both educate and entertain the public.
Members of the Bandera Cattle Company, local reenactors who perform gunfights and skits each Saturday in the Cowboys on Main Program, will be on hand to share the history of Bandera and its place on the famed Western Trail.
The two-day event will also include authentic campsites, wagons and campfire cooking with each camp being judged for authenticity. Dressed in period costumes, Celtaire String Band – Mel Peters, fiddle and pennywhistle; Betty Peters, percussion and Lumberjacks; Mark Shafer, mandolin and vocals; and Mary Shafer, guitar and vocals – specializes in historic Americana music.
