DRT essay deadline looms

The deadline for the 2016 Caddel-Smith Daughters of the Republic of Texas Essay Contest deadline is approaching. The fourth grade essay is to be written about James Butler Bonham and seventh grade essay is to be written about European Immigrants in the Republic of Texas. All essays should be turned into local schools on January 25.
First, second and third place winners will be selected by the Caddel-Smith Chapter and will be recognized at 2 pm, March 5 at the Leakey United Methodist Church. Winners will read their essays for members and guests and receive certificates and cash prizes - first prize, $50; second, $30; and third, $20. In addition, first place winners will be eligible to apply for a $1000 Caddel-Smith DRT sponsored scholarship after graduation from high school.
The first place winner will be judged on the District VII level. The association is divided into ten districts, each district submitting one winner.
The Caddel-Smith chapter would like to thank all participants and wish them the best of luck.
