Buckingham announces for Senate District 24

Public Announcement

Dr. Dawn Buckingham, candidate for Texas State Senate District 24, is pro-life, pro-family and a fiscal conservative, who believes in smaller, less-intrusive government, and increased border security.
Dr. Dawn Buckingham's forefathers were among the first settlers in Texas seven generations ago. That tough, independent, pioneer spirit is deeply rooted in her personality. Dawn spent her early years growing up on Fox Run Farm until her family relocated to Austin. The country lifestyle stuck with Dawn and she remains an avid hunter and outdoorswoman.
She graduated from UT Austin, spending her college career living at home and working two jobs. In 1992, she graduated Magna Cum Laude and debt-free. During her time at UT, Dawn met the love of her life and husband of 24 years, Dr. Ed Buckingham.
Both Dawn and Ed received their medical degrees from the Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. During her time in Galveston, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and served as class president. Today Dawn is a third generation surgeon practicing Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
An active member of the Texas Medical Association's house of delegates, she served as chairman of the council on legislation. In addition, she has held leadership positions in the Travis County Medical Society and served as president of the Texas Ophthalmological Association.
Dawn's commitment to service is evident beyond her medical practice through her involvement as a former volunteer fire fighter, trustee on the Lake Travis ISD School Board and as the Lieutenant Governor's appointee on the Texas Sunset Commission. Dawn also holds a gubernatorial appointment as the vice chair of the State Board of Educator Certification.
