First candidate forum coming up

Special to the Courier

The first local "Meet the Candidates" forum, sponsored by the Bandera American Legion, Chamber of Commerce and the Ranchers and Landowners Association of Texas, will take place from 10 am to 2 pm, Saturday, Jan. 9, from at the Bandera American Legion Post 157, 205 12th Street - across from Western Trail Antiques Mall and the Exxon Ice House.
This forum will include candidates for Texas Senate District 24 and candidates. District 24 candidates invited to participate include Dawn Buckingham, Jon Cobb, Brent Mayes and Reed Williams.
This January forum will include candidates for Texas Senate District 24 and United States Congressional District 21. Participating District 24 candidates will be Dawn Buckingham, Brent Mayes and Reed Williams. At press time, organizers were awaiting confirmation by three other candidates. Challengers to US District 21 incumbent Lamar Smith, Matt McCall and John Murphy have agreed to participate. Final confirmation by Smith is expected shortly.
Bandera county voters are urged to attend this informational "Meet the Candidates" forum and learn where their potential future government leaders stand on important issues - on both state and national levels.
The format will allow each candidate equal time to present their platform, followed by a question and answer opportunity period. This will also be timed to allow participation by all candidates.
Final confirmation of participating candidates will be available on the websites of the American Legion, www.al157tx.org; and the Chamber of Commerce, www.banderatx.com.
