Free Thanksgiving dinner in LH

By Carolyn B. Edwards BCC Staff Writer

The Quesada family is once again organizing supporters and volunteers to provide a free meal on Thanksgiving Day at the Lakehills Civic Center.
The tradition started with Antonio Quesada's mother. "When we were kids, she would give us plates to take around the neighborhood for the elderly."
Today, Quesada's wife uses his mother's favorite recipes for the turkey and dressing, pea salad, yams and more to serve the Medina Lake community. This is their fourth year to host the meal.
The Medina Lake Betterment Association donates the Civic Center for the project, and all the food is freshly prepared in their commercial kitchen, Quesada said.
The free meal is open to anyone who wants to come. Serving begins at noon and continues until 5 pm. The family welcomes volunteers to help cook, serve and clean up. Just call Quesada at 210-883-4869 to sign up.
Meals on Wheels will deliver plates to anyone who is homebound.
Local churches, restaurants and the MLBA are generous supporters of the effort, contributing plenty of desserts and more.
"We have live music throughout the afternoon," Quesada added. He also invites veterans and active duty military to join in the celebration.
These hard-working folks are ready for plenty of people to show up. "My dad always said it's better to have leftovers than to run out of food," Quesada said. Should there be any leftovers, they are packaged and delivered to families in need.
