Dr. Diane Commuzzie speaks to Bandera Middle School girls about STEM careers.

On Thursday, Nov. 5, Dr. Diane Comuzzie met with the girls of Bandera Middle School to invite them to attend a career conference on science and math. The conference will be held at Schreiner University on Saturday, Nov. 21. Over 30 individual sessions will present information on careers in science and math ranging from astronomy to molecular biology. Simultaneous parent sessions will also be offered to help parents learn how to support their daughters as they attend this conference.
"We need more women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields. We believe that if girls get exposure and reinforcement to STEM early on, then it helps them to stay in the field," Comuzzie said. "We are providing college students and professionals for role models."
Scholarships for registration based on need are available through the American Association of University Women. Waiver forms are available through BMS Counselor Keri Irvin. For more information about this conference, go to www.schreiner.edy/eyh/ or contact Mrs. Keri Irvin at 830-796-6285.
