Accompanied by their grandmother, Barbara Mazurek, Rien and Reese Marzurek, both 11, attended Congressman Lamar Smith's town hall meeting the morning of Monday, Oct. 12, at American Legion Post 157 on 12th Street. Smith updated his constituents on occurrences in Washington, DC, including the recent signing of his STEM bill into law. With a focus on science, technology, engineering and math, the bill will redirect funding to training teachers, offering scholarships and promoting out-of-school programs for students who excel in those areas. Referring to the Mazurek boys, Smith said, "These are exactly the kinds of students the STEM bill will help." More about Smith's successful town hall meeting will be published in the Thursday, Oct. 22, edition of the Courier.
