Celebrating 95th anniversary

by Judith Pannebaker

As part of the American Legion's 95th anniversary, members of Bandera Post 157 hosted a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 12. On Thursday, Sept. 10, Bandera County Commissioners and Judge Richard Evans proclaimed Wednesday, Sept. 16, as "American Legion Day" throughout the county. On that date in 1919, Congress chartered the American Legion. Currently, the organization boasts 2.5 million members - both men and women - in over 14,000 posts across the globe. Closer to home, the Bandera community turned out to enjoy pancakes with blueberry sauce, scrambled eggs and sausage patties prepared by Legion members, Clay Baker and Steve Harris. The breakfast was free, but donations were appreciated. According to Post Commander Ray Baker, the next pancake breakfast will take place in conjunction with Veterans Day. Don't miss it!
