Tax rate proposed, public hearings set

By Judith Pannebaker BCC Editor

Bandera County Commissioners last week approved a proposed tax rate for the next fiscal year of $0.6769 per $100 valuation. The rate, which remained the same as last year, is well below the rollback rate of $0.7281 per $100 valuation.
Tax Assessor-Collector Gwenda Tschirhart, PCC, presented the latest numbers to the court during a regular Thursday, August 13, meeting.
Since the tax rate remained the same as last year - and several years prior, for that matter - and did not exceed the rollback rate, state law does not require public meetings. However, in the interest of transparency, two public meetings will be held on both the tax rate and proposed budget. Times and date include:
• Thursday, Sept. 10, at 10 am
• Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 pm
Both public hearings will take place in the second floor courtroom of the Bandera County Courthouse on Main Street. For more information, call the office of Judge Richard Evans at 830-796-3781.
