'Kelly's Coffee' nears completion

It's coming down to the finish line for artist Bill Stevens' brobdingnagian mural "Kelly's Coffee," which will eventually be attached to the side of an office complex at the intersection of 12th Street and Highway 16. In May, Bandera City Council approved a budget adjustment of $7,000, which enabled the municipality's Economic Development Corporation to fund the artwork. Being painted on a series of 4-foot by 8-foot panels, "Kelly's Coffee" features popular Bandera County resident, Kelly Scott, a 2015 inductee into the Frontier Times Museum's Texas Heroes Hall of Honor and chuck wagon cook. According to Stevens, most of the most painstaking work has now been completed and he's "shooting" for its final coat of oils by Labor Day. Stevens works on the mural during the early morning hours. Historian Dave Burrel spearheaded the mural project.
