On the morning of June 11, Bandera County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Jared Wampler, 24, a suspect in a fatality hit and run, vehicle vs bicycle, that occurred on FM 471 in San Antonio.
According to Chief Deputy Matt King, the vehicle was registered to Wampler's mother, and he was located at her house in Lakehills.
Wampler had an outstanding warrant for possession of marijuana from Bexar County.
When arrested, Wampler said he thought he hit a deer, King said.
The accident happened just outside Loop 1604. Witnesses tried to follow Wampler in the white Toyota Camry he was driving, but could not keep up, according to news reports. However, they provided enough information for identification to be made.
The victim was 67-years-old Bobby Jeffcoat who was dead at the scene.
Bexar County has charged Wampler with failure to stop and render aid.
