May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Contributed

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. An estimated one in five adults will develop it and studies have shown that no one is exempt from the risk for skin cancer. Could you be at risk?
Peterson Regional Medical Center will host three Friday's Skin Cancer Screenings as follows:
• Friday, May 15 - Fred Speck, MD
• Friday, May 22 - Lala Stawowy, MD
• Friday, May 29 - Tru-Skin Dermatology
All screenings will be held between 8:30 am and noon, at the Ambulatory Care Center, 260 Cully Drive, in Kerrville. No appointment is necessary.
Participants will be asked to fill out a form describing a particular skin issue or concern then, in the order paper work is received, the physician will take a closer look in a private cubicle in the classroom. This is a skin cancer screening and not a screening for rashes. Peterson reminds community members that the sooner cancer is found, the better the chance it can be treated before it spreads.
These free screenings are being underwritten by the physicians at the Peterson Regional Medical Center.
